This research aims to provide a meta-analysis of the literature findings on the characteristics of social media influencers regarding consumer involvement and purchase intention. For this purpose, researchers found eight characteristics of social media influencers: homogeneity, information, honesty, loyalty, compatibility with the product, entertainment value, information value and attractiveness. The present study combines 176 effect sizes from 62 studies and serves as a total sample of 22,554 individuals. The results show that these attributes have moderate to high correlations with customer involvement and purchase intention. Of all the attributes studied in this analysis, the entertainment value of social media influencers has the strongest relationship with consumer engagement. It was concluded that influencer credibility influences purchase intention more than any other attributes. This work provides a new way to reduce heterogeneity in influencer marketing research by defining the dimensions of relationships and the magnitude of the impact of these relationships.
