The Impact Of 3d Modeling On Fashion Design And Virtual Fitting Rooms – “Mixing the old and the new” is something fashion designers do every day. From modern takes on trends of the past, to futuristic runway looks reminiscent of your grandmother’s staple wardrobe.
But when Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) student Hemani Kumar combined the old with the new, she took it to the extreme.
The Impact Of 3d Modeling On Fashion Design And Virtual Fitting Rooms
By combining ultra-modern 3D printed embellishments with traditional influences, it forms a bridge between ancient Indian culture and the future of fashion.
Fashion’s Circular Economy Could Be Worth $5 Trillion
Heman’s aim is to reimagine the traditional sari – imbued with centuries of cultural significance – as a modern garment. “I wanted to create a work that embraced this heritage while also moving towards a more modern perspective. Creating a bridge between old, traditional saris and what we believe saris can do, and contrasting old, beautiful designs with modern technology,” Hemani explains. FIT is part of the State University of New York and is considered the “MIT for the fashion industry”. 3D printing has been embraced by the fashion world for its ability to print rigid, lightweight structural parts, hems and fasteners with textures and effects that cannot be achieved with traditional methods. Although this technology is relatively new to the industry, FIT already offers students a variety of applications for their design projects. Iris van Herpen was one of the first in the fashion industry to use 3D printing and Hemani praises the innovative Dutch designer’s work as her inspiration. With the support of FIT Assistant Professor Amy Sperber, an evangelist for the use of 3D printing in fashion, Hemani set out to modernize the traditional sari, drawing inspiration from Western culture and its Indian roots its to create a contemporary work.
Hemani worked alongside the fashion team to bring her designs to life with stunning 3D embellishments for collars, sleeves and legs.
3DFashion™ is a powerful 3D printing technology that is transforming the fashion industry by printing directly onto full-color textiles. Clear printing and perfect adhesion on a variety of fabrics allow designers to create breathtaking designs and amazing optical illusion effects with color and light.

To ensure the entire design reflects a cohesive look and feel, the colors in the trims are modeled after the floral print on the body, and the collar is cut to the contour of the neckline.
“I learned so much in just one semester! I ran into some problems that needed to be fixed; It was a big learning curve for me,” Hemani said.
“For example, mesh fabric has minimal stretch after being 3D printed, so my seams are more difficult to match. And it’s hard to get your favorite fabric into the machine. I broke a lot of needles! But in the end the whole piece came together and looked cohesive.”

Decorative details in Hemani’s design were 3D printed on J850™ TechStyle™. This direct-to-fabric 3D printer provides superior surface adhesion because the mesh fabric is “sandwiched” between thin layers of plastic.
Not only cohesive, Heman’s design also made a big splash at the FIT Future of Fashion 2023 exhibition, and Professor Sperber was clearly impressed with Heman’s achievement: “This is a museum-level work. This is not just a college fashion show.” Vogue attended and Heman’s designs were praised in the magazine’s coverage of the event.
Professor Sperber is very excited about the future of fashion with 3D printing technology: “This technology is the missing link in the technical aspect of fashion design.

It will have wide applications for enclosing and access, as well as creating structural and decorative parts such as these. This technology will change everything. This is not an overnight change, but there is a generation ready to express its plans in a new way.” Hemani explains the 3D design element is part of the entire outfit from concept to creation and not just an add-on. “Besides the speed of 3D printing directly on fabric, compared to sewing or gluing individual embellishments, it would not be possible to achieve the same effect. The 3DFashion design team helped me create something unique. Without 3D printing technology directly on fabric, it would not be possible to have such a product.” Sari will return to India with Hemani after graduation, where she plans to create a clothing line featuring 3D printed details in a similar style. Dpc Conversations: William Wilcox, Ceo, Clothing Tech
We just saw in a previous blog post that the fashion industry is starting to use 3D printing quite often. To take full advantage of this technology, designers should use 3D modeling software to create the clothing and accessories they want to prototype or produce. Since many of these software tools offer good rendering, this can also be a great solution for showing your designs to clients. Are you interested in digital fashion but don’t know which CAD fashion design software to use? We are here to help you!
In this blog post, we will look at the connection that already exists between the fashion industry and the use of 3D printing. We will give you some tips for choosing the best fashion 3D modeling software to help you design your clothes. Then you can even 3D print your product thanks to our 3D printing service!
3D printing is widely used in the fashion industry. Additive manufacturing seems to be a good solution for creating complex clothing designs that we can see in fashion shows.
How To Design And 3d Print Flexible Meshes
3D printing technology allows you to carry out new experiments, try new production methods, new materials and produce clothes with complex shapes without wondering how you can make this thing .
Furthermore, this technique allows you to create multiple iterations of your project much faster and cheaper than traditional methods. Pattern design is an important process in fashion and these software will make your design process a lot easier. You will be able to create high-quality prototypes thanks to digital manufacturing. It’s a precise technique that will make the 3D design you created with our 3D modeling software come to life.
Jean-Marc Pedeboy, CEO of Stratégies, a company that develops CAD software for the footwear industry, explains this: “Using CAD software and 3D printing allows you to reduce the price of the prototype by 10 %. Furthermore, today brands need to create new collections faster and this cannot be done with traditional prototyping methods. “
Innovative Creativity In Textile Business Need Of 3d Printing By Sfa Print
3D printed products for the fashion business are more than just clothes. You can find 3D printed shoes, accessories, and jewelry. 3D printed jewelry is becoming quite interesting thanks to 3D metal printing, now it is really precise, with good quality and different finishes allowing you to get rings, bracelets or pendants The necklace looks really nice. CAD fashion design software is not specifically designed for 3D printing. Even without using additive manufacturing, designers now have to work in 3D software. These 3D software allow for a number of rendering and visualization operations, which is why these aspects of the fashion industry are so interesting. These fashion design CAD software are also suitable for creating perfect models or displaying models to customers. However, 3D is becoming really interesting for professional fashion designers.
“3D modeling is really interesting for designers now. Indeed, digitizing drawings is becoming necessary in the fashion industry, but the process is lengthy and expensive. Using CAD in fashion allows you to save time and money, says Jean-Marc Pedeboy
